Wipe the Chair with a Dry Cloth
Before using any cleaner or foam spray, it’s a good idea to brush dust and dirt off the surface of your chair. You can wipe down the chair with a dry towel, which will also help the cleaner penetrate into the fabric and eliminate any embedded stains or odors. Fabric upholstery requires special attention, as solid particles can be pushed deeper into the chair if the force is too great. Fabric upholstery needs to be wiped carefully to remove loose particles. If solid particles are accidentally pushed into the fabric, the chair must be cleaned quickly to prevent the particles from becoming embedded in it. Regular cleaning with a dry cloth can extend the life of your office chair, no matter what material it is made of. Using a vacuum wand can remove dirt and dust that might otherwise settle in the chair’s upholstery, speeding up the chair’s lifespan.

Clean the Chair with a Vacuum Cleaner
Vacuum the entire chair, from back to wheels, to remove debris, lint, or dust. Using the brush attachment, you can clean surface debris and dirt that accumulates in your mesh office chair and its crevices. Use a can of compressed air or a duster to get into hard-to-reach places that your vacuum cleaner can’t reach. When vacuuming high-quality leather executive chairs, use low suction and a soft brush attachment to protect the leather surface. After using the cleaner, vacuum the chair one last time to remove any remaining dust or debris that the product may have kicked up.

Wipe the Chair with a Suitable Solvent
Start by trying to use the cleaning product in an inconspicuous area. Rather than applying solvent directly to the chair, it’s best to lightly pour it onto a cloth and then wipe it away.

Let the Chair Dry
It is best to ventilate the chair after use the cleaning product. If you use a dry cloth, the moisture will be absorbed by the fabric. The chair will still be wet and may develop mold if not dried thoroughly. Alternatively, you can use a hair dryer or other device that emits hot air, such as a dehumidifier, to dry the chair. When people do need to clean a chair, they often leave it outside to dry after cleaning. It’s best to let it dry naturally. Placing the chair in the sun for a while after cleaning is the most effective and quickest way to dry it. However, don’t leave your furniture in the sun for long periods of time. If your furniture is leather or “leatherette”, the fabric may melt. Make sure to only dry breathable fabrics outdoors.

Clean the Wheels
Generally speaking, chair wheels are designed to be easily removable. You can use a screwdriver to remove the wheels on some office chairs. Slide a butter knife or putty knife through the gap under the wheel cover to remove any dirt or debris from the wheel. Get some tools and see if they help remove the stuck debris. Get a pair of tweezers and remove any debris that seems stuck. Screwdrivers, bottle cutters, nail clippers and scissors can also be used to remove hair and debris. To remove any remaining particles, wipe the wheels with a towel. Take care to clean the inside and outside of the wheel cover. If you can’t get your finger into the lid’s opening, you can use a cotton swab to get inside. Water trapped inside the wheels can cause squeaking and make it easier for dirt to lodge. To dry the wheels, use a clean rag or paper towel. Once dry, use the same tools to reattach the wheels to the chair or reinstall the base to the floor. Push the chair to the floor, making sure the wheels can move easily.
