Aug 07, 2018

On July 19, 2018, the Toronto Transportation Commission, Canada's largest transportation operator, purchased 10 pure electric buses from BYD. This is the first time that the operator has purchased pure electric buses, and it is also the 100% zero-emission fleet that was fully built in 2040. One of the major initiatives.

This purchase is of great significance to the Toronto Transportation Commission. The committee plans to purchase only zero-emission buses from 2025, and this purchase is equivalent to implementing environmental protection plans in advance. According to the person in charge of the committee, this order includes 10 12-meter pure electric buses, and it is possible to add 30 bus orders in the future.

Ted Dowling, vice president of BYD Canada, said: "The Toronto Transportation Commission has a forward-looking green vision. As the largest transportation operator in Canada and the third largest in North America, it is leading the Canadian bus industry to a brighter and cleaner future. It is important to know that these 10 buses will reduce carbon emissions by nearly 700 tons per year for Canada."

Since entering the Canadian market in 2013, BYD has already received several orders for pure electric buses. In March 2016, St. Albert, Alberta, announced the purchase of seven BYD pure electric buses, making it the first city in the country to operate a pure electric bus. In October 2016, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson held a press conference at the City Hall, announcing the introduction of a BYD pure electric bus to open the city's electric bus program. In November 2016, Edmonton Airport and BYD signed hundreds of pure electric bus purchase letters of intent. In November 2017, BYD delivered the country's first 16-meter heavy-duty pure electric truck to Loblaw, Canada's largest food and drug retailer, marking Canada's official entry into the zero-emissions logistics era. In early July 2018, BYD delivered the first two pure electric buses to the Grande Prairie Transit, a bus operator in northwestern Edmonton.
