The ship must be equipped with a complete set of power plant and auxiliary equipment to meet the requirements of the code before it can sail on the water. These power units include ship active power units, auxiliary power units, steam boilers, refrigeration and air conditioning units, compressed air units, Marine pumps and piping systems, water production units and automation systems. This mechanical and electrical power equipment is mainly concentrated in the engine room, and the technical department that specializes in managing these equipment is the engine department.
1. Active power device
The ship's active power plant, also known as the "main engine", is the heart of the ship and the most important part of the ship's power equipment, mainly including:
(1) Ship main engine
A common name for an engine capable of generating propulsion power for a ship, including various pumps and heat exchangers, piping, etc., that serve the main engine. At present, the main engine of merchant ships is Marine diesel engine, followed by steam turbine.
(2) Transmission device
The power of the main engine is transferred to the propeller equipment, in addition to the transmission of power, but also can play a deceleration, shock absorption effect, the boat can also use the transmission equipment to change the direction of the propeller rotation. The transmission equipment is slightly different due to the different types of the main engine, in general, it is composed of reducer, clutch, coupling, coupling, thrust bearing and ship shaft.
(3) shafting and thrusters
The propeller is the most widely used propeller in ship, and most of them are propeller with fixed pitch or adjustable pitch. Ship shafting is a device that transmits power from the main engine to the propeller. The main engine of the ship drives the propeller to rotate through the transmission device and shafting to generate thrust, and overcome the hull resistance to make the ship forward or backward.
2. Auxiliary power device
Ship auxiliary power unit, also known as "auxiliary machine", refers to the ship's generator, which provides electrical energy for the ship in normal and emergency situations. The ship power station is composed of electrical and mechanical equipment such as engine set and distribution panel.
(1) Generating set
The main motive power is provided by the diesel engine. Based on the safety and reliability of the ship and the consideration of simple maintenance and management, large ships of Marine accessories manufacturers are equipped with no less than two diesel generators of the same model, and many can be generated at the same time according to the need. In order to save energy, during navigation, some ships can use the drive shaft of the main engine to drive the generator to generate electricity (shaft generator) or use the waste heat of the main exhaust to produce low-pressure steam to drive the turbine generator set to generate electricity.
(2) Switchboard
It carries on the electric distribution, the control, the transmission, the variable voltage, the variable CURRENT TO ensure the electric towing equipment and the whole ship life, the lighting, the signal and the communication and so on needs.
3. Steam boiler
The ship with diesel engine as the main engine needs to be equipped with steam boiler, which is composed of auxiliary oil stove and exhaust gas boiler and pipe system and equipment for its supporting service. Auxiliary oil boiler is to supply some auxiliary steam needs on the ship, such as heating oil and lubricating oil, heating, domestic water, kitchen, boiling water, etc., and to meet the needs of some auxiliary steam. In order to save energy, the exhaust gas boiler uses the waste heat from the exhaust gas of the diesel engine to produce steam during the voyage, and only the auxiliary oil boiler is used during the berth.
